THE SCIENCE OF RIGHT SANATHAN MEDITATION
In the present time the word “MEDITATION” is well known and popular all over the world. Innumerable scientific studies all over the world on Meditation have revealed many mental, physical and social benefits of the practise of Meditation. Naturally many schools of spiritual thought have sprung up and they are offering varieties of Meditation.
Therefore, it is natural that in the mind of the true Sadhaka/Seeker of the TRUTH, the question arises which is the true and correct Meditation practise to be pursued for not only deriving the benefits but to realise the goal (realisation of Universal Consciousness/ Supreme Being) of Meditation, for which the Sadhaka/Seeker id Meditating. The Science of Meditation OR Tapas was envisaged and evolved originally in Sanathana Dharma (Hinduism) in India. We all know that Sanathan Dharma means evolutionary way of life of Indians. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the true context of Tapas or Meditation as envisaged and practised in Sanathana Dharma since time immemorial by Sages, Saints and also common man of India.
WHAT IS RIGHT MEDITATION?
The very meaning of Meditation provides the true definition of Meditation. The word Meditation means “ to think deeply and constantly engrossed on one single issue” i.e., one pointed focus of the attention of the Mind on one single chosen issue, concept, object or on a specific thought of Mantra.
Every travel of ours should have a definite destination or goal. The purpose of embarking on a travel is to reach the desired goal or destination. If you travel without any goal or destination to be reached, then it becomes a meaningless travel leaving us nowhere.
If this truth is applied to Meditation, then there must be a definite goal or destination for embarking on Meditation process. The Meditation is essentially a spiritual process or journey undertaken by the Mind to reach the goal and establish in the Individual Consciousness (Aathma/Soul) which in-turn will align with the Supreme Consciousness / Supreme Being for all times.
If one simply sits in silence in Meditation doing nothing the Mind has no direction to reach any Goal and therefore it gets confused and remain in its natural thinking process of the day-to-day life and doing nothing more than that. This type of Meditation can result in calming the mind a bit but definitely not progressing towards any goal or destination as there is no one to reach. There is no spiritual progress here except enjoying relaxation of Mind. Is this the right Meditation?
In some type of Meditation, the meditator is advised to make the mind free from all the thoughts and attain a thoughtless state. This practise is against the very thinking nature of the Mind and it is made to swim against its own natural current. Therefore, in the long run blanking of Mind can lead to inertia state of Mind resulting in the Sadhaka/Seeker feeling that he has attained Transcendental State or Samaadhi (Sama means equal or even, aadhi means first one i.e., Supreme Being). In this Meditation, as the mind has no goal or Destination to reach, it does not go anywhere but by remaining in the state of inertia. Again, there is no spiritual progress except feeling the relaxation of Mind. Is this the right Meditation?
In another type of Meditation, the meditator is made to focus the Mind on one’s own breathing process. Breathing is limited to the body and it is not required after death as the breathing stops at it. The mind which was focusing on the breathing rhythm will be left with no goal to reach and thereby the spiritual goal eludes the practitioner because the practitioner does not know what the spiritual goal is. Of course, this Meditation is also relaxing in its results. But its focus is only on the body.
Some even sit under the pyramid and practise this Meditation. The pyramid is only used for the burial of the dead body in the ancient Egypt only to preserve the dead body for longer period with an intention that the soul which has gone to the nether world (darker region in creation) would come back into the body someday. As the Mind becomes direction less when the person dies, the Mind as it has been conditioned for a long time to be under a pyramid, the Mind does not go higher up as it has been crushed towards underground due to pyramidical awareness in the Meditation. Therefore, the consciousness of the individual goes down to lower levels and definitely not towards higher level. Is this the right meditation?
In another type of meditation, the practitioner sits in Meditation and goes on observing the thoughts arising in the Mind and also body sensation if any. No doubt the outflow of thoughts reduces the intensity of thoughts raising, and Mind becomes calm resulting in a better feeling after Meditation. Is there a real Spiritual progress in it?
Know the truth that Spiritual progress (expansion of awareness) is NOT possible without the purification of karma (accumulated action and reaction phenomena from innumerable births) stored in the subconscious layers of the Mind. Subconscious layers of the Mind is the wall between the conscious Mind (Surface layer of the Mind) and one’s own pure consciousness (Self/Soul/Individual Consciousness).
Mind is also a wall between the Individual Consciousness and the Universal Consciousness. The primary object of Meditation is to purify the Karma which is the cause for the cycle of births and deaths. Unless the Karma is completely cleared, the Individual Consciousness cannot establish contact with the Universal Consciousness or Supreme Being. With each right Meditation process one can move one step forward towards self (One’s own consciousness) and Super Self (Supreme Being or Universal Consciousness).
Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to know what is RIGHT MEDITATION.
A RIGHT MEDITATION is one where the Mind is turned INWARD and clearly directed towards one’s own consciousness and from there on towards the Supreme Being/Universal Consciousness. So, in a Right Meditation, Mind is set towards achieving the Supreme Goal aimed for. Therefore, there is no scope for the Mind to be otherwise in the Right Meditation process. In order to give specific direction towards the intended goal, a Benign or Divine WORD possessing the Supreme Consciousness in seed form is used to direct the Mind to follow it and reach the goal where the WORD (seed) unfolds itself into the Supreme Consciousness (just like a seed growing into a full-blown tree) and thereby the goal of the Meditation is realised. The practitioner’s consciousness will be permanently aligned with the Supreme Consciousness/ Universal Consciousness for all time. This is the Right Meditation process where the seed (divine WORD) is buried into the Mind and watered it (through the practise of repetition) and allowed it to grow into a full-blown tree (Supreme Consciousness) to reap the desired result. Therefore, it is necessary to know the science of Right Meditation to practise the same.
Yama, Niyama, Pratyahaara, Aasana (Yoga Asanas), Pranayaama (Deep breathing), Dhyaana (Meditation), Dhaarana (becoming one with the Meditation) and Samaadhi (Individual consciousness becoming on par with Universal Consciousness, just like the River reaching the Sea). These are the Eight steps to attain the Yoga as envisaged by Indian Scriptures and as well as by Maharshi Pathanjali’s Yoga Sutras.
Meditation is the Sixth step where the practitioner from the physical level practises (Yoga asanas and Pranayama) move towards Mental level practise i.e., Meditation to reach the higher and evolutionary order i.e., to reach the Individual Consciousness and in-turn Universal Consciousness for all the times.
“URDHWAM GACHANTHI SATWASTHA, MADHYE TISTTANTHI RAJASAAHA, JAGANYA GUNAVRUTHASTHA ADHOO GACHANTHI THAMASAAHA”
– Lord Krushna in Bhagavadhgeetha
In the 18th Stanza of 14th Chapter declares so “He who is divine in nature or positive in nature will adopt evolutionary spiritual practises in order to reach the Supreme Being.
He who is semi-positive in nature will adopt the practises like Hatayoga and others so that he will remain in middle order i.e., on the Earth plane with positive mind.
He who is non-divine or Negative in his nature will adopt false spiritual practises like worshipping Darker forces of the nature etc., so that his consciousness will go down to the darker layers of the creation.
शुक्लकृष्णे गती ह्येते जगतः शाश्वते मते।
एकया यात्यनावृत्तिमन्ययाऽऽवर्तते पुनः ।।
There are two paths for mankind one is Shukla marga (Spirituality evolutionary) and the other one is Krishna marga (the darker path leading to darker layers of the creation).
The Shukla Marga is highly positive, divine and totally spiritually evolutionary path like Devotion, Japa, Manana (remembrance of divine name), Shravana (listening to divine names), Seva Yoga (Service to mankind) and finally Jnana Yoga like Meditation on the Supreme Being leads to Salvation (i.e., Moksha) where the Individual Consciousness dissolves into Universal Consciousness forever.
Krishna Marga is opposite to Shukla Marga. Following Krishna Marga enables one to attain super natural powers which include tantric practises, Hata yoga, kundalini yoga, etc.. This path leads into the cycle of the birth and death.
In the path of Jnana Yoga (path of knowledge) only purification of Karma and Runa is most important factor for attaining Salvation. When Karma and Runa are totally erased through Meditation on the Supreme Being, the Kundalini energy which is at the base of the spine in serpent form totally converts into pure energy (goddess Saraswathi of Satwa Guna) and raises through Sushumna Naadi (Solar plexus) and merges into the Universal Consciousness along with propelling the Individual Consciousness to merge into the Universal Consciousness. Thus, the state of Moksha is attained. This is Shukla Marga.
Awakening Kundalini energy in serpent form through the practise of many Siddha Saadhanas along with Meditation on this serpent form of Kundalini, and bringing it to Sahastrara (thousand petal lotus) give the practitioner lower siddhis i.e., lower super natural powers and propel the practitioner into the darker realms of the creation because serpent lives in the antholes i.e., in the depth of the earth (Adholoka). Kundalini awakening without Karma and Runa purification does not give the Supreme Knowledge or Salvation but leads the practitioner into the bondage of Karma and to take birth again and again. Afterall, the serpent force (Kundalini serpent) does what is has to do if it is awakened in the serpent form. This is Krishna Marga. This path is quite opposite to Shukla Marga – which is the path of Salvation.
Therefore, it is necessary to adopt Right Spiritual practises which are totally evolutionary in nature.
HOW TO MEDITATE?
- Sit comfortably on floor or a Mat or on a Chair having a straight back, as you prefer. Be easy, relaxed and comfortable.
- Now inhale and exhale deeply about 10 to 15 times.
- Now gently close your eyes. Now easily and comfortably focus the attention of your mind at the spot between the eyebrows (i.e., at the junction point of nose and eyebrows and REPEAT at your own natural rhythm the oriented Cosmic Word “SHAANTHIHI” again and again only mentally without moving tongue & lips, OR any one of the Naama mantras given in the Sanathan Divine Naama Mantra’s chart , which is of your choice OR the Name of your family deity. Continue the repetition only mentally, without moving tongue and lips, with natural and easy concentration without straining, for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes open your eyes and slowly get on with your activities.
Those who find it difficult to meditate for 30 minutes at a stretch, may meditate for 5 minutes in the first week; 10 minutes in the second week; 15-20 minutes in the third week, and gradually accomplish 30 minutes.
NAAMA MANTRAS FOR SANATHAN MEDITATION/JAPA:-
|
Note:- Those who cannot sit and meditate because of lack of time, may repeat the divine word or Naama Mantra only mentally without moving tongue and lips during the course of their activities where the concentration of mind is NOT required and thereby gain spiritually.
Do not use the mantras pertaining to any baba or prophet or that of any other unknown force of the nature (non-divine) whose divine vibration is NOT known. If you use, it may align you to the darker layers of the creation. They are of unknown vibration. The mantras given here have been used by our Sages and Saints from time immemorial for attaining divinity and totally proved of their Absolute Divine Vibrations.
The cosmic sound ‘AAUM’ is not added as a prefix to these Divine Naama mantras because only to avoid any premature awakening of the basal kundalini energy before sufficient purification of karma, causing false renunciation attitude and thereby avoiding doing of karma yoga in the guise spiritual pursuit.
Everybody can practise Divine NAAMA Mantras without any fear of developing any type of false renunciation.
AAUM is the basic cosmic sound with which loud Vedic recitations are made invoking Gods and Goddesses operating in the creation, in order to worship and appease them for the one’s well-being and public at large. These loud recitations goes into the environment and not INWARD like Meditation. Therefore, there is no chance in awakening kundalini energy by these Vedic worships which are basically OUTWARD.
Meditation on the word “SHAANTHIHI” (meaning Supreme peace, bliss and harmony which is the fundamental nature of the Supreme Being) OR on any Divine Naama Mantras, produces tremendous positive effects on the mind, body and behaviour of a person. Do not try to translate the word “SHAANTHIHI” into any other non-Indian languages because their vibrations are unknown.
WHAT HAPPENS IN SANATHAN MEDITATION?
During Meditation, the repetition of Sanathan Divine Naama Mantra results in CENTRIFUGING of the Conscious Mind and it starts moving INWARD penetrating into its own sub-conscious layers. When there is this INWARD movement of the Consciousness Mind, then what is hidden in the sub-conscious layers of the mind i.e., tensions, pressures, stresses, sorrow, anguish, despair and Karmic forces of innumerable births start getting neutralised and they move outward in the form of innumerable thoughts. It is just like the rig of the borewell when it bores into the earth, the mud from inside start coming out. As long as the rig bore into the earth, the mud continues to come out. Similarly, thoughts continue to raise in Meditation indicating purification of the subconsciousness layers of the mind (It is the outward movement of negative energy).
In every Meditation, thoughts raise without fail. But understand clearly that they are not at all disturbance but just a prat of Meditation indicating outgoing of negativity in Meditation. Therefore, don’t worry, be neutral towards thoughts in Meditation. When the mind drifts away into thoughts, easily bring back the attention of your mind from thoughts on to the Mantra of the Meditation and continue the repetition till the end of 30 minutes.
The drifting away of the attention of the Mind from the repetition of Mantra may occur several times in each Meditation. Just bring back the attention of the Mind from thoughts and again focus on the Mantra and continue repetition.
Any sensation, uneasiness, jerks, shakings or movements may be felt in the body during Meditation, because of the purification process. Don’t worry, just continue, don’t give up. Be neutral and natural. Outside noise is also not a disturbance because Meditation is an INWARD process.
Be neutral to any visions or hearing of any voice during Meditation. Just proceed on with Meditation without getting involved because the goal of Meditation is to align with the Supreme Consciousness for all times.
Meditate once or twice a day at your convenient time. There are no do’s and don’ts or place and time for Meditation. Supreme Being / Universal Consciousness is all pervading, Omnipresent, Omniscient, Omnipotent which is beyond time and space. Therefore, you may meditate anywhere, at any time, even while travelling in a bus, train or plane.
Decades of research by modern Science has revealed that Meditation yields beneficial effects on mind, body and social behaviour of an individual and as well as on a group. It is found that Meditation improves the quality of mind. Increases calmness, positive thinking, better concentration, better memory, better grasping power, increased tolerance and better self-management. Yoganidra (deep but alert full rest) produced in Meditation helps repairing wear and tear of the body. The above scientific studies have made Meditation not only a spiritual practise but also a therapeutic one.

- Make Meditation a part of your daily routine and meditate at your convenient time. In the morning, when you get up from bed, brush the sleep off from your eyes and sit erect on your bed or on a chair and go through your Meditation as a first priority. Once you get into your daily routine, you may not find time for Meditation. Then there will be a tendency to postpone each time.
- Face north or east or northeast direction during Meditation, if possible.
- Empty or light stomach provides ideal physical condition for Meditation. There are no restrictions regarding your food habits. Meditation itself will regulate your diet in course of time.
- Do not imagine, except or anticipate anything in Meditation. Just Meditate for the sake of Meditation without any selfish intentions whatsoever. Be neutral, totally open minded without any prejudices whatsoever. The benefits will simply follow in the course of time.

If you have time after Meditation, you can relax by laying down flat, leaving the mind and body totally free. This will enable all the released negative forces to go out. Then you will feel much better.
- Whenever the outgoing of negative forces becomes tough in Meditation owing to tense thoughts or uneasiness or otherwise, on any day, then do not come out of Meditation in frustration. Instead, keep your eyes closed and do deep breathing about TEN times and then continue Meditation. Even then, if Meditation continues to be difficult, then do not open your eyes, but follow the path of silence for the rest of the stipulated period of Meditation.
- A dedicated meditator after sometime may feel that he/she is not seeing as many changes as he/she felt in the beginning. This is because the changes at the surface level are over and the effect of Meditation has moved INWARD.

- By practising this Meditation, if you have found benefits, then pass on this knowledge of Meditation to others also get the benefits of this Meditation. Knowledge is for all without exception.
Meditation is THE only way to purify your karma and to become divine or benign. When karma is released and flushed out, the suffering is gone. When the cause is gone, the effect is also gone.
Through Meditation overall spiritual development of Individual, and people can take place re-establishing DHARMA. Therefore, Meditate and bring peace to yourself, your family, society, nation and world at large, and also to prevent nature’s fury on the world, because of man’s wrong actions against nature, and to revive and re-live Sanathana Dharma, and to pass on this great way of life to the next generation.
TAPAS (Meditation) is the only way to achieve this. Therefore, practise this Divine Meditation on the Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient, all pervading Supreme Being (GOD) and become a practising Hindu as our Sages and Saints were.

NATURAL DEEP BREATHING
(Sahaja Pranayama)
Pranayama for Beginners
The efficacy of all meditations can be greatly enhanced of natural deep breathing is practised for about 3-5 minutes before starting Meditation. Deep breathing can also be practised separately.
HOW TO PRACTISE DEEP BREATHING?
- Sit comfortably on a chair or on the floor or on a mat.
- Keep your back straight. Be comfortable.
- Now, exhale (breathe out) completely whatever air is there in the lungs and THEN suck in (inhale) air through nostrils deeply, filling the lungs fully. Be natural and comfortable. Do not strain.
Now exhale fully contracting your abdomen. Again, inhale deeply, fully and then exhale completely.
Practise deep breathing like this for 3 to 5 minutes and then go for Meditation, if you are practising Meditation. If not, get on with your activities.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING DEEP BREATHING?
As you inhale air deeply, the air gushes through your nostrils, wind pipe and fills the lungs completely. When the lungs are full with air, the blood in the alveoli of lungs absorb this fresh air which is full of oxygen and thereby becomes rich in oxygen. This richly oxygenated blood then circulates in every part of the body rejuvenating every cell, just like watering the plants. Every cell begins to vibrate with energy (oxygen is pure energy) and naturally gets rejuvenated. The body becomes more relaxed, energetic and lively.
Many ailments of the body originate owing to lack of proper supply of oxygen (energy). These ailments gradually disappear with the supply of life energy, and therefore health improves in general. Similarly, when the blood rich with oxygen is supplied to the brain, every cell of the brain gets activated. Therefore, functioning of the brain improves just as wilted leaves blooms when the roots are watered. The depression of mind which is usually caused by lack of supply of oxygen to the brain disappears and the mind becomes fresh and relaxed. You would regain lost enthusiasm.
Deep breathing is a great remedy for beating depression, dullness and boredom.
Whenever you feel depressed dull or bored, immediately adopt deep breathing. You will see the change because of the pumping of a lot of life-energy. Remember, breathing is like watering a wilting plant which blooms after that.

So long as the knowledge and awareness of the Universal Being is not attained, Vedic practises like Homa, Yagna, Sacrificial fire, reading of scriptures, and visiting holy places are all helpful. Once Awareness ALIGNS with the UNIVERSAL BEING, all the above things are less relevant.
Moksha is attainable only by following the path of DHARMA (Comprehensive Righteous way of life). Following the path of Dharma leads to the knowledge of becoming aware of the Universal Consciousness. This knowledge in turn leads to MEDITATION for the realisation of the same. Sincere, devotional and regular practise of meditation on the Universal Being ultimately results in MOKSHA (Moksha) through the purification of karma.
Only meditation is capable of purifying the accumulated karma of innumerable births. Thus, Dharma and Meditation on the Supreme Being are the key to Moksha.

” Yogasthaha kuru karmani “
Lord Shree Krushna in Bhagavadgeetha gives a hint regarding the state of mind required for doing action.
“Establish your mind in equanimity (calm state) and do your action”.
A calm state of mind alone can produce right and appropriate thinking relevant to the circumstances.
THE SCIENCE OF RIGHT SANATHAN MEDITATION
Subconscious layers of the Mind is the wall between the conscious Mind (Surface layer of the Mind) and one’s own pure consciousness (Self / Soul / Individual Consciousness).
Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to know what the is RIGHT MEDITATION.
A RIGHT MEDITATION is one where the Mind is turned INWARD and, clearly directed towards one’s own consciousness and from there on towards the Supreme Being / Universal Consciousness. The practitioner’s consciousness will be permanently aligned with the Supreme Consciousness / Universal Consciousness for all time.
“ URDHWAM GACHANTHI SATWASTHA, MADHYE TISTTANTHI RAJASAAHA, JAGANYA GUNAVRUTHASTHA ADHOO GACHANTHI THAMASAAHA ”
शुक्लकृष्णे गती ह्येते जगतः शाश्वते मते ।
- Sit comfortably either on a chair having a perpendicular back or sit on the floor on a mat, as you prefer. Make sure that you are sitting comfortably in order to avoid unnecessary movements during Meditation. Be easy, relaxed and comfortable.
- Keep your head and back straight but be easy, relaxed and comfortable.
- Lock your tongue and lips meaning do not move your tongue and lips because Meditation is purely a mental process.
- Now inhale and exhale deeply about 10 to 15 times e., take deep breaths.
- Now gently close your eyes (do not open your eyes till you complete the process of Meditation).
- Now easily and comfortably focus the attention of your conscious mind at the spot between the eyebrows (i.e., at the junction point of nose and eyebrows) and REPEAT at your own natural rhythm the oriented Cosmic Word “SHAANTHIHI” again and again only mentally without moving tongue & lips, OR any one of the Sanathan Naama mantras given in the chart below – Naama Mantras for Meditation, which is of your choice OR the Name of your family deity. Continue the repetition only mentally, without moving tongue and lips, with natural and easy concentration without straining, for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes open your eyes and slowly get on with your activities.
- Come out of Meditation after 30 minutes and slowly get into your activities.
NOTE: Meditation is nothing but mental repetition of a chosen benign word of high cosmic vibration, with closed eyes, without moving tongue and lips, with simple and easy concentration. It is necessary to repeat a very benign word of cosmic vibration like “ SHAANTHIH ” or any one of the Sanathan Naama mantras given in the chart – Naama Mantras for Meditation, in order to centrifuge the conscious mind around this word and turn the conscious mind inward just as whirl in the pool rotates and move inward.
Those who find it difficult to meditate for 30 minutes at a stretch, may meditate for 5 minutes in the first week; 10 minutes in the second week; 15-20 minutes in the third week, and gradually accomplish 30 minutes.

The cosmic sound ‘AAUM’ is not added as a prefix to these Sanathan Divine Naama mantras, because only to avoid any premature awakening of the basal kundalini energy before sufficient purification of karma, causing false renunciation attitude and thereby avoiding doing of karma yoga in the guise spiritual pursuit.
Everybody can practise Sanathan Divine NAAMA Mantras without any fear of developing any type of false renunciation.

For details on how to meditate visit The cosmic sound Aaum / OM page.
Meditation on the word “SHAANTHIHI” (meaning Supreme peace, bliss and harmony which is the fundamental nature of the Supreme Being) OR on any Divine Naama Mantras, produces a very high cosmic vibratory frequency which gradually quells the disturbances and obstacles at physical, mental and spiritual levels and unfolds the experience of the nature of one’s own consciousness (Individual Consciousness ) and in-turn the UNIVERSAL CONSCIOUSNESS. Do not try to translate the word “SHAANTHIHI” into any other non-Indian languages because their vibrations are unknown.
The word “SHAANTHIH” in the languages of the orient has a very deep meaning. The nearest translation of this word into English is “ PEACE ”. But in the orient it depicts the very nature of the UNIVERSAL CONSCIOUSNESS which is essentially Absolute Peace, Bliss and Harmony. The cosmic vibratory frequency of the word
“SHAANTHIH” is a time tested one as it has been used in the orient since time immemorial in Meditation. Therefore, translating this word “SHAANTHIH” into any other language MAY NOT produce the same effect, as its cosmic vibration and efficacy is unknown.
The word “SHAANTHIH” has an unmatchable track record of its greatness in rising the human consciousness to higher orders, from generations, in the orient.
Further, the use of this pure positive and benign cosmic word in Meditation very gradually erases or quietens the six-fold negative traits in man. The six fundamental negative traits in man are, desire, anger, selfishness, arrogance (egoism), infatuation (attachment) and jealous.
In Meditation, as you focus the attention of your mind at the spot between the eyebrows and repeat the word “SHAANTHIH” or any one of the Sanathan Naama mantra chosen for meditation only mentally, innumerable thoughts relating to day-to-day life or otherwise may arise not only diverting the attention of your mind from the word of Meditation but also disturbing your concentration.
Don’t worry, it is a natural phenomenon. Just bring back the mind, focus it again at the spot between the eyebrows and continue your repetition of the word “SHAANTHIH” or any one of the Sanathan Naama mantra. Again, there may be shifting of your attention by thoughts. It does not matter. Again, bring back your mind on to the word of Meditation and continue your repetition. This may happen several times in each Meditation but don’t get perturbed. In course of time, not only will the intensity of thoughts come down but there will also be an increase of concentration in Meditation.
Remember, thoughts in Meditation are NOT AT ALL a disturbance in Meditation but only an integral part of it indicating the purification of different layers of the mind that is going on in Meditation.
What happens in Meditation?
During Meditation, the repetition of Mantra results in CENTRIFUGING of the Conscious Mind and it starts moving INWARD penetrating into its own sub-conscious layers. When there is this INWARD movement of the Consciousness Mind, then what is hidden in the sub-conscious layers of the mind i.e., tensions, pressures, stresses, sorrow, anguish, despair, and inborn negative traits, tendencies, instincts and Karmic forces of innumerable births start getting neutralised and they move outward in the form of innumerable thoughts. Some of these hidden forces, depending upon the condition of the mind and body on a given day, are flushed out during Meditation in thought forms.
It is just like the rig of the borewell when it bores into the earth, the mud from inside start coming out. As long as the rig bore into the earth, the mud continues to come out. Therefore, thoughts during Meditation are not only natural but also an indication of the purification of the subconscious layers of the mind. So, thoughts are bound to arise during Meditation and grip your conscious mind till a related force is flushed out each time.
In every Meditation, thoughts raise without fail. But understand clearly that they are not at all disturbance but just a prat of Meditation indicating outgoing of negativity in Meditation. Therefore, don’t worry, be neutral towards thoughts in Meditation. thoughts will be an inevitable part of Meditation so long as the purification of negativity is going on. This clear understanding about thoughts arising in Meditation is absolutely necessary to understand to understand the process of RIGHT Meditation.
While digging a borewell, when the rigger bores into the earth it replaces the mud there in to outside. That is how we see heaps of mud coming out when the rigger is boring inward. This phenomenon is a natural one. Exactly the same phenomena operates in the Right Meditation process where the special word of Meditation bores in to the subconscious layers of the Mind through the repetition process and the hidden accumulated tensions, pressures, stresses and instinct ( like anger etc..), negative traits and tendencies move outward in thought forms.
Here we can remember the physics principle that two things cannot occupy the same place at the same time.
Whenever you realise that your conscious mind drifts away into thoughts, easily bring back the attention of your mind from thoughts on to the Mantra of the Meditation and continue the repetition till the end of 30 minutes.
The drifting away of the attention of the Mind from the repetition of Mantra may occur several times in each Meditation. Just bring back the attention of the Mind from thoughts and again focus on the Mantra and continue repetition.
So long as release of tensions, pressures and other negative forces are there, thoughts continue to rise in Meditation, sometimes intense, sometimes moderate.
Thoughts being an integral part of Meditation, neither encourage the thoughts because it indicates purification nor try to suppress them for the sake of concentration. Be neutral to thoughts and just continue the repetition of the word “SHAANTHIH” or the Naama Mantra chosen for Meditation with easy and natural concentration till the end of your Meditation period.
Do your allotted and accepted duties with total application, dedication and discipline which is in your hands, but not the results. Results will always be in accordance with the efforts.
Effects of Meditation
- On account of the repetition of the word “SHAANTHIH” or any one of the Sanathan Naama mantras given in the chart Naama Mantras for Meditation in Meditation, the attention of the conscious mind becomes single-pointed. Thereby lateral activities of the mind comes down considerably. Therefore, the physiological activities will also come down resulting in a state of deep relaxation in the body, although the mind remains highly alert repeating the cosmic word “SHAANTHIH” in Meditation. This deep relaxation is called “Yoganidra” which revitalises and rejuvenates every system in the body.
- All the tensions and pressures, stresses and strains accumulated in the nervous system are released and flushed out due to relaxation.
- Reduction of workload on the heart owing to deep relaxation, rejuvenates the heart muscles and makes them strong and stable (beneficial to heart patients).
- Deep relaxation to the respiratory system makes it strong and flexible (beneficial to asthmatic patients). The relaxation of arteries and veins gradually results in the normal blood flow which is beneficial in cases of high or low blood pressure.
- Blood pressure due to heavy tensions simply disappears when the tensions are flushed out from the system. The functions of the digestive system also improve. The entire body becomes relaxed, flexible and light.
- A relaxed nervous system gradually becomes stable, freed from excitation, irritation, short temper and timidness.
- Disorders like sleeplessness, fear, anxiety, nervousness, irritability etc., disappear gradually, because the causes for all these is neutralised in Meditation.
- When the cause is gone, the effect is also gone. Further, Meditation is very helpful in arresting many of the deteriorating disorders of the body.
- However, note that Meditation is not a substitute for medication. But definitely Meditation eliminates the side effects of medication. If you are on medicine for some disorder or disease, just continue.
- Meditation will be complementary to medication, in improving your health by leaps and bounds.
- Also note that Meditation is not a substitute for regular sleep. Through regular practise of Sanathan Meditation, the mind becomes more peaceful, relaxed and stable and in-turn you will enjoy better concentration, memory and positive thinking. Thus, regular practice of Meditation results in a sound state of the mind and body, apart from gradual spiritual development i.e., expansion of consciousness.
- Meditation provides spiritual development, health improvement and betterment of personality, gradually.
Understanding Some Experiences
1. Some may experience a slight pressure at the temples (on either side of the head) during or after Meditation in the first few days. This is due to intense release of tensions and pressures from the subconscious layers of the mind which temporarily get clogged/ accumulated before they move out. In that event, just close the eyes, leave the mind and body totally free and observe total silence for about 10 minutes. The released forces will move out either in thought form or otherwise, and you will be relieved of the pressure.
Those who are patients of migraine headache may develop head ache after Meditation. This is due to pull out or a repairing process. Therefore, people with migraine headache may meditate for five minutes in the first week. If headache is not felt after each Meditation then the duration may be increased to ten minutes in the second week. Follow this method till you reach thirty-minute duration.
2. Sometimes, you may slip into sleep during Meditation. This is due to fatigue or overshadowing of awareness by intense release of accumulated tensions. As the release of fatigue or tensions comes down after a few meditations , there will be less dozing off in Meditation.
3. Sometimes, the intensity of thoughts arising in Meditation will be so much that it will be impossible to meditate further. If so, do not come out of Meditation by frustration. Stop repeating the word “ SHAANTHIH ”,do not open your eyes, leave the mind free and continue to sit in silence till the end of your stipulated period of Meditation. All the forces which are disturbing as thoughts will move out gradually releasing the mind from their grip. You will have not only less thoughts but also better concentration in your next Meditation. Facilitating the outgoing forces by way of silence in one Meditation improves the next Meditation. Meditation is comparable to the digging of a well. The mud that has been dug has to be removed out from the pit if further digging has to be continued.
Similarly, the tensions, pressures and other forces released in Meditation have to go out either in thought forms or otherwise so as to make the situation better either in the same Meditation or in the next Meditation.
4. During Meditation your head may bend forward. This is due to deep relaxation of neck muscles making them supple. If you bring it back to straight position, again it may bend forward. Therefore, continue Meditation in the same position without bothering to bring it back to its normal position, as long as you feel comfortable.
5. Sometimes, you may feel slightly dull after Meditation and this situation may slightly affect your daily activities. Although this is due to the intensity of the purification of negativity, you may not be able to take in this disruption. Then, either follow the principle of silent relaxation as mentioned in the earlier paragraphs one and three or cut down the stipulated period of Meditation bit by bit till you feel comfortable with your daily activities, after Meditation.
6. Sometimes, you may experience a bit irritation, anger or uneasiness due to continuous release of negative forces, even long after Meditation. Facilitate these outgoing forces to move out by following relaxation in silence as mentioned earlier. As they move out of the system, you will feel better. Although the purification of negativity may cause the above-mentioned situations occasionally, the final outcome is a better state of mind, body and spirit.
7. Any pain, sensation, uneasiness, jerks, shaking or movements felt in the body during Meditation is only due to the purification and the setting right process. Just patiently go through it. Everything will be all right.
8. In the rarest of rare cases, Meditation can be slightly disturbing because of the unearthing of negative forces which in a particular individual might disturb his activities. In such cases, if the meditator stops Meditation, then the unleashing of negative forces ceases and normalcy is restored. You may begin Meditation again after some time.
True spiritual practices are always natural, simple and easy to practise. The spiritual practices which are not natural in their practise (unnatural) are not true spiritual practices. Spiritual practices cannot be against the natural way of life.
Further Instructions
- Meditate regularly for 30 minutes at least once a day at your convenient time. If possible, twice a day, Morning or Evening.
